What
is a compactor?
A compactor is a convenient mechanical unit to compact many types of waste
and/or recycling material. A compactor has a hydraulic device that crushes
material and reduces material volume. This helps a customer save money
by reducing the amount of loads.
Are there
different types of compactors?
Yes, there are a few, such as:
Stationary
Compactor
(Equipped with breakaway receiving containers)
Self-Contained
Compactor
(Which is a liquid tight compactor)
How
do compactors work?
The
material is placed into a hopper connected to the compactor. The material
is then pushed into the receiving container. As the container begins to
fill the material is compacted. The material is then stored into the container.
With an 80% full indicator light the customer is aware when service will
be needed.
Benefits
of having a compactor
- Safety
and housekeeping- having a compactor available has proven to promote
better housekeeping and safety because there is always a convenient
and efficient place to dispose of trash.
- Fire
prevention- loose trash can catch fire easier than compacted trash.
- Theft
prevention- some open top containers have been known for storage areas
of expensive goods that have been stashed by employees to be removed
later after the business closes!
- With
an indicator light, there is ample time to request service for your
container.
- Open top
containers can be inviting to nearby residents to dispose of debris
at someone else's expense.
